It is difficult to come to terms with death when someone young and talented is taken away.
Thulane Gilbert Dludlu (20), Barberton City Stars third choice goalkeeper, drowned at the Fairview Mine swimming pool last Tuesday morning.
Mandla Thabethe, Stars’ manager, described the young lad as a comedian who used to make people laugh.
“He was a hard worker on the field and always gave more than 100%. Off the field, he was one who used to lift the team spirit when it was dawn. We will solely miss his presence on the team,” Thabethe said.
Dludlu joined Stars at the beginning of the season, after impressing them during trials, from an amateur team in Kwandebele.
His coach Patrick “Bazooka” Phiri said they would miss Dludlu presence even though he never had an opportunity to show his full potential. |

According to the three friends that went with him for a swim on the day of his untimely death he was the one who organized his mates to go and swim.
On their arrival, he dived into the pool. It was when he did not appear that his friend realized something was wrong. They alerted mine personnel and they immediately started to search for him under the water. He was only found 30 minutes later and certified dead by the mine’s sister.
According to Insp Florence Gama, police spokesman, an inquest docket has been opened.
Dludlu will be buried on Saturday at his native town, Kwandebele. |
